AFT Election FAQ’s

Question: What happens if only one person runs for an office, and or they are unopposed? 
Answer: Constitution Article IV, Section 5b  Elections to office must be by a majority of votes cast. In case no candidate for a given office receives a majority on the first ballot, a run-off election shall be held as soon as possible between the two candidates receiving the largest number of votes, but in no case later than two weeks from the date of the counting of the ballots in the original election.

Question: What day in the 2021 AFT UNION Election, may we talk with the candidates in an open forum?
Answer: March 2, 2021 @ 10:00 am &  March 3, 2021 @ 3:00 pm.

Question: Which AFT FULL UNION member positions receive a stipend?
Answer: Constitution By-Laws Article XIV  Last two pages. See attached PDF.

Question: Is there a compensation chart for the AFT UNION member job positions?

Question: How long is the term for the AFT UNION Job Descriptions?
Answer: June 1, 2021 to May 31, 2023

Question: What are the roles or responsibility of the AFT UNION Job Descriptions?

Question: How may I learn about the AFT UNION Job Descriptions, to possibly run  for an office in the future?

Question: How may an AFT Full UNION Member be written into the election ballot?
Answer: Constitution Article IV, Section 4e, if there are not at least two (2) candidates for each position, the Elections Committee will provide a place on the ballot for a write-in candidate.

Question: Is it possible to receive an AFT UNION member elected position, after the election voting process has closed?
Answer: Constitution Article IV, Section 4f, in the event no candidate is nominated or submits a petition for an office, the position’s duties will be fulfilled through the action of the Officers until a newly appointed executive committee is able to identify and elect a candidate. The newly appointed executive committee should consider write-in votes that are full members.
