The AFT Local 2373 assisting our medical students at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University make a difference in the lives of homeless people in Camden.
CMSRU Street Medicine student teams dedicated to promoting and facilitating the health and well-being of those living on the streets spend every Saturday morning distributing socks, water and food to folks in various homeless encampments. They also provide basic medical assistance, including but not limited to wound care, under the supervision of a licensed physician. During outreach, they listen to and learn about the people they serve, striving to recognize not only their needs but also their barriers to care.
The Community Awareness Committee of Rowan’s AFT with the assistance of the ladies on Incarnation Church in Mantua hosted a drive for the student-run Street Medicine initiative. This drive ended Friday, Oct. 19. With the cooperation of site coordinators, Pat and the Committee sent over a car- load of food, new clothes, hygiene products, medicine and AFT bags and water bottles to the students at Cooper Hospital.
